This is Geno, one of the most underappreciated characters in the Mario universe. He's the guardian of Star Road, where wishes become stars and fall to earth as they're granted. He's an extraterrestrial, so to speak, and he takes the form of a child's doll shortly before joining your party.

Geno is from Super Mario RPG, a really awesome game from both Nintendo and Square for the SNES. I really hope they bring it to the Wii VC soon, because it's my favorite game of all time (and doubtless the one I've played through the most times).

I did this one, from concept sketch to finished product, in about 3 hours. I decided to do a more cel-shaded look rather than the full-out blending I usually do. It works well since I'm assuming the doll is made of plastic.

This was a fun picture to make. The light source is the moon, which Geno is looking up at (however, it doesn't appear in the picture).
